Join me as we embark on an enchanting journey into the creation of twenty-five of my all-time favorite photographs. Along every colorful bend in the path, new discoveries filled with the joy and promise of creative possibility await. Some of the images that you’ll encounter rely heavily on post-capture editing, a handful of them are almost entirely the product of in-camera technique, while others are an equal mix of both stages of the creative process. All images in this eBook represent a body of work that makes me hungry for more opportunities to expand myself as a photographer.

This eBook is not intended to serve as a play-by-play rendition of my creative process, nor is it designed to impart highly technical information. I’ve written other books that cover that information. This eBook invites you to be expressive with your photography and to cultivate your imagination! Like a painter, don’t be afraid to embellish a scene to convey the emotions that you experienced while standing before it. Remember, there are no rules stating that a photograph must be a literal interpretation of the world. Instead, let each image be a reflection of your artistic spirit. Even though these pages exhibit a collection of photographs, this eBook is about so much more than photography. It’s about the joy that comes from expressing your true nature. I believe that a photograph created during a moment of inspiration has the potential to reveal the contents of your soul. The stories that you are about to read offer a tiny glimpse into mine.

If you are having trouble viewing Luminescent World or the excerpt, please consider downloading the latest version of Adobe’s free PDF reader, available for both Mac and PC. I find that this resolves the vast majority of problems that my readers encounter. Download Adobe Reader – Version 9

    Mark,

Congratulations on a truly wonderful book! I really like the format. It is simple, yet powerful. I love the way you laid it out so that when viewed two-up, the finished image is always shown as the text continues. I also like seeing the original photograph so I can see the possibilities.

I found myself really drawn into the stories about how you created the image. There is enough detail on the processing to inspire me to experiment myself.

As I read quickly through the first pass, I became more and more eager to learn the techniques. Now I need to go through more slowly and study your process. Even while flying through it, I found this phrase on page 87: “How could I illustrate my emotions?” and realized that this phrase is a metaphor for the entire book. I think this is exactly what is missing in my photography…emotion.

Thank you for just the right kick I needed. Thank you for the inspiration. Thank you for continuing to share your amazing talent and vision with us all. Thank you for Luminescent World!

I love to read but have a hard time purchasing e-books because I do not like to sit at my computer to read… but this e-book looked so beautiful I kept coming back to this website. I finally purchased it, and let me just say that every time I sit at my computer to read this book, it is like a gift. The photographs are stunning, the text is understandable and fun to read, and the entire book is one creative, imaginative and inspiring piece of work.
