View Smaller Version or Purchase a Downloadable QuickTime Video
Welcome back to Part 2 of my “What’s New in Photoshop CS4″ Video Tutorial!
Photoshop CS4 possesses several mind-blowing new features, including Content-Aware Scaling and Focus Blending. In addition to these new features, this upgrade boasts numerous productivity-enhancing improvements, such as an Adjustments Panel, a Masks Panel, and radically improved Dodge and Burn tools. The programmers didn’t shy away from Adobe Camera Raw as they wrote the new software. ACR is loaded with incredible new tools, including an Adjustment Brush, a Graduated Filter, and Post-Crop Vignetting.
In this two-part series, I’ll cover all of these new features and a few more. Part One is devoted solely to Adobe Camera Raw and Part Two focuses entirely on Photoshop.
So without further ado, let’s go exploring…
Part Two – Photoshop:
Adjustments Panel / On Image Controls / New Presets
Masks Panel / Non-destructive Masking
Content-Aware Scaling
Dodge and Burn tools
Clone Stamp/Healing Brush Live Preview Overlay
Focus Blending / Bridge Load Files into Photoshop Layers option

Mark,
As always, your tutorials get right to the heart of the subject. You’ve found the most interesting new aspects and have given a very clear explanation of how to use these features. Thanks!!

Hi Mark! I spent some time watching videos today and it was great! Learned a lot and realized how much I miss learning from you. Allie is absolutely gorgeous. In PS, how do you get the gray background under the image even when the image isn’t in full screen mode (I mean, when the photograph still has the information border, and Bridge is hidden, how do you NOT have to see the desktop behind the photo?)
Thanks Mark, your website is wonderful.

I just upgraded to CS4, and found your two “what’s new” tutorials to be very helpful!
I also am learning so much from your Botanical Dreaming book, especially as one day I intend to become proficient in macro photography.
Thank you for sharing your passion and expertise. I look forward to learning so much more from your work, and from the folks at The Mindful Eye, as I retire in May of 2010 and have much more time to pursue my passion for photography, Photoshop and Lightroom.
Richest Blessings to you and your family, and…your daughter is precious!

Just tried the Focus Blending technique and found it worked much better using Auto-align first- especially with subjects that had very slight variabilities- like flowers in a field.

Just want to say a huge thank you for these tutorials.
I especially like the fact that unlike some tutorials you cut out the razzmatazz and get straight into the lesson.
Learnt so much in the past few hours..a big thanks
